Mr. and Mrs. David Reiley have sold the assets of Somerset Newspapers, Inc., dba The Daily American, located in Somerset, Pennsylvania to Schurz Communications, Inc. of South Bend, Indiana, according to John T. Cribb, Bolitho-Cribb & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction.
The Daily American is a six-day daily newspaper serving Somerset, Pennsylvania and the surrounding Laurel Highland outdoor recreation area. The newspaper has 13,659 paid circulation and is in the unusual position of having had a circulation increase every year for the past twenty-nine years. The paper was started in 1929 by David Reiley’s grandfather.
The Reileys will continue to operate a phone book company in the Somerset area and will split their time between Somerset and their home in northern California. Schurz Communications, Inc. is a family owned and operated newspaper company based at the South Bend Tribune in South Bend, Indiana. The company owns and operates daily newspapers in California, Indiana, Kentucky, and Maryland, and a shopper group in California.
Bolitho-Cribb & Associates is a publishing company brokerage firm located in Bozeman, Montana.
