Newark, NY

March 03, 2008

GateHouse Media, Inc., parent company of the Palmyra Courier-Journal, The Timesaver and several other upstate New York publications, has acquired Ad Group WC, inc., from owner John Van Dusen, according to John Cribb of Cribb, Greene & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction.

Ad Group includes the Newark Pennysaver and the weekly Courier-Gazette newspaper, as well as the Sodus-Williamson Pennysaver and the Lyons-Clyde Savannah Shopping Guide.

"Many years of publishing in Wayne County have allowed me to witness and participate in an unprecedented amount of change and innovation. I have had the privilege of working with dedicated and talented people, of whom I am very proud," Van Dusen said. "GateHouse's dedication to community publishing will provide these people with added tools and invigorating resources to support local publishing in Wayne County."

"For the three generations of the Van Dusen family of publishers, I extend grateful thanks for the support extended to us by the people of the Wayne County communities we have had the honor to serve," Van Dusen added.

Kelly Luvison, Executive Vice President of GateHouse Media, said Ad Group fits extremely well with his company's strategy of acquiring dominant local media franchises.

"We're excited about creating a stronger brand specific to Wayne County," Luvison said. "John's publications complement our existing products perfectly. We welcome the Ad Group papers and their staff to our family of publications."

Among other things, Luvison said this week's announcement speaks to GateHouse's ongoing commitment to local newspapers, to community-based publishing, and to the company's continued investment in upstate New York.

GateHouse also operates AdNet Direct Printing and the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua, along with 21 other Messenger Post Media publications in Ontario and Monroe counties. The company publishes more than 50 titles across central and western New York.

Cribb, Greene & Associates is an eighty-five year old newspaper brokerage company with offices in Bozeman, Montana and Charlottesville, Virginia.
